AUTUMN WINTER 2025
Norlha’s Autumn Winter collection for 2025 looks to the Chuba, a floor-length garment worn across the Tibetan Plateau.
Adjusted at the waist with a wide cloth belt, the Chuba is extraordinarily adaptable and loose fitting, worn by town dwellers and nomads alike. Equally wearable on horseback, motorcycle or for ceremonial use, the Chuba is made from varying natural fabrics, depending on use, from coarse wool and sheepskin, to finer lambskin and silk brocade.
The shorter the Chuba, the more voluminous the pouch resulting from overhanging material, used to hold babies, cellphones, flashlights and even newborn lambs. Women from the Amdo region wear their Chuba ankle length accessorised with waist ornaments, while nomads and men wear roomier Chubas mostly pulled up above the knee, with sleeves that hang dramatically down to the ground.
This season’s scarves and ready-to-wear pieces wrap or tie around the body, referencing both the enduring qualities and tactility of the Chuba, and how it protects the wearer from the elements.
Showpiece styles including the Handspun Nostalgia Scarf and Overfelt Nomad Neck Warmer, along with the Nomad Net Boiled Scarf from Norlha’s core collection, offer intense softness with a soothing, textured density that wraps and cocoons the body – akin to the Chuba’s embrace.
The Shawl Collar Coat for women and men envelopes the body in warmth with an oversized, three- quarter length silhouette. With generous sleeves and an open front, it is ideal for winter layering.
Norlha’s Tibetan Chuba Shirt, with exaggerated silhouette, and Pleat-Front Trousers, which wrap around the waist tightened by long ties take elements of the Chuba - its extra long sleeves and traditional sash - transforming them into contemporary pieces for the colder months ahead.
The colours for Autumn Winter 2025 - deep red and burgundy, dark blues, muted greys, browns and moss - echo the traditional colours of the Chuba, while pops of tangerine, pine green, yellow and coral red reference the rich and vibrant tones ever present on the plateau, adorning monasteries and temples.
Each Norlha piece is crafted through intricate skill, traditional knowledge and thoughtful innovation, made by hand on the Tibetan Plateau.
