CHILDREN'S COLLECTION

Norlha’s latest children’s collection takes inspiration from the essence of childhood play found in Tibetan life. Play, a craft as old as time, as wide as an imagination, and as generous as the wind, stars and skies above.

In Ritoma village, Norlha Atelier’s home, most children cannot remember a time without Norlha. Children have grown up playing hide and seek here; as they weave and spin around piles of yak wool their parents work nearby; weaving and spinning in harmonious tandem. Artisan’s little ones' laughter often fills the courtyard and surrounding hills, as games are played and childhood’s nurtured, enlivening the air with abundance, a sense of mischief and adventure.

The presence of children is a constant source of inspiration. The children of Ritoma strengthen our sense of community and familial bonds. To celebrate this and show our deep appreciation, we welcome each Norlha Atelier newborn child with a Norlha baby blanket. These children are not only our responsibility, but our future, and we hope that one day the atmosphere of skill and creativity that they thrive in will inspire them to continue the journey that we began together.

Norlha’s Children's Collection speaks to this feeling, to the tangible and inherent joy, curiosity and wonder of childhood, inspired by what children would want to wear and what would excite them - bold colours and sensory textures - playful pieces that can be touched, twisted and held.

Soft, nourishing,  spontaneous and warming, Norlha’s children’s collection for 2025 features vibrant pops of colour, designed for the outdoors, with ease of movement in mind and subtle details that reference traditional Tibetan design.

Made from the finest yak khullu, Tibetan shirts, ponchos, scarves and accessories are functional and comfortable, woven, knitted, and felted by Norlha’s artisans. Delicate textures, fringing, toggles and tassels are reminiscent of the dynamism of play itself. The irregular warp and weft fringing of the Children’s Lake Scarf recalls running in pastures, tumbling through fresh grass and enjoying time with friends, while the Children’s Dense Boiled Poncho features hand-stitched cord edges finished with tassels that speak to the tactility and lively nature of childhood games.

Dandelion yellow, bright greens, fuschia, pinks and red are paired alongside muted tones of grape, dark blue and yak khullu’s natural white and brown hues, bringing a vibrant lightness and sense of spontaneity to brighten the long winter months ahead.

Made by hand on the Tibetan Plateau using special techniques and weaves unique to Norlha, these timeless pieces are crafted with intricate skill, to treasure as children grow, cherished and passed on to generations anew.
