Culture

The bond between animal and his herder is sacred. The herders follow them in a transhumance pattern between spring, summer autumn and winter pasture. Yaks and sheep contribute to maintain the delicate ecosystem; they graze on a high variety of flora, fertilising the land which their manure, and spreading the seeds with their hooves.

COMPOSITION IN DETAIL

Handwoven at Norlha Atelier using yak khullu sourced from local nomad cooperatives. This piece was made using the khullu of 7 yaks. khullu is the ultra-fine, downy undercoat that keeps yak insulated during harsh Tibetan winters. Each summer, the yak naturally shed this down, which is then carefully collected by hand.

100% yak khullu.
