Front-Pleat Skirt
This skirt is made from a soft, midweight yak khullu and silk blend. Its a-line design falls to ankle length, with a front pleat that can be worn front, side or back. It is finished with an invisible zip, adjustable strap and invisible horn buttons.

- Provenance: Handwoven at Norlha Atelier using yak khullu sourced from local nomad cooperatives and responsibly sourced silk from Zhejiang.
- Base colour: Yaks typically have a dark brown coat, but they can also be found in grey and, very rarely, in golden brown and white. Our artisans work with all four yak wool shades, which are either left in their natural state, combined to create different tones, or dyed.
- Yak khullu: This piece was made using the khullu of 7 yaks. Khullu is the ultra-fine, downy undercoat that keeps yak insulated during harsh Tibetan winters. Each summer, the yak naturally shed this down, which is then carefully collected by hand.

- Artisans & Processes: A team of 17 artisans handmade this piece at Norlha Atelier. During its production, it went through 15 highly specialised processes.

Hand-Painted Four Friends Blessing

This blessing is hand-painted in copper sand ink on black paper by Lhagon Kyap, a local painter who specialises in thangkas (Tibetan religious scrolls). The Four friends is a symbol of harmony. In ancients times, before the coming of Buddha, an elephant, a monkey, a hare and a grouse lived in the jungles of the kingdom of Kashinagar, which is in present day Varanasi, in India. They decided that the source of happiness lay in the respect of others.
