L O C A L

Annual Picnic. Ritoma monks finished a busy Spring season with their annual picnic held between July 22nd - 26th, followed by their month-long summer retreat, which ends on September 17th.

Moving Pastures. On August 18th, nomads moved from Chakka, Ritoma's highest summer pasture, at an altitude of 3700 mtrs, down to the first fall pasture, Zaka, where they were greeted by the season's first snowfall.

Laptse. Amne Tongre, Ritoma's Guardian peak, at an altitude of 4200mtrs, will see it's annual two day Laptse on the 14th of September. The Village men, bearing their clan arrows, will ride their horses to pay homage to the deity and spend a day horse-racing and camping below the mountain.
