LUNAR NEW YEAR — YEAR OF THE TIGER

The Lunar New Year is marked by the first day of the lunar year and is the most celebrated festival on the Tibetan Plateau. It is a symbol of new beginnings; rituals are performed to destroy evil influences; positive forces are conjured with wholesome acts to bring about merit.

The colour Red plays an important part in Lunar New Year's symbolism. It is associated with powerful rituals and is believed to have protective qualities, which lead to its being painted on buildings. It is a symbol of life force and fire, which can be protective or destructive.

Amithaba, one of the five transcendental Buddhas, personification of Buddhahood, symbolizes eternal life. His Red hue transforms the delusion of attachment into the wisdom of discernment, the ultimate goal, one the spiritual minded will reinforce at each passing new year.
