WINTER SPORT IN RITOMA
Tibet is a country of lakes, and in winter they shimmer in the midst of the yellow grassland.

Animals cautiously walk over them, licking the ice and nibbling at grass sticking out from the edges. Children love the ice; in Lhasa, they put metal under their shoes and had sliding contests. In Ritoma, they take out their tiny homemade sleds made of well-worn wood and find myriads of ways of slipping and sliding, standing or crouching. slideshow |
